Administrative Assistant/School Receptionist

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Principal, the Receptionist is responsible for assisting in the planning,
organization, coordination, administration, and management of school operations, activities,
and programs. The school receptionist helps create a safe and clean environment within the
school, while also greeting visitors, answering phones, overseeing building entry and security
procedures. The school receptionist is expected to accurately
enter data, and maintain confidential records. The school receptionist is also responsible
for administrative support, project coordination, and logistical support.


Essential Functions:
1. Interacts with the general public, school personnel and students in a professional
manner.
2. Coordinates and supervises the daily operation of the school's attendance program,
security functions, transportation, and works in cooperation with school board office
administrators and supervisors who have districtwide responsibility for these programs
and operations.
3. Works with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for
students and staff. Develops plans for emergency situations in collaboration with other
administrators, staff, and public safety agencies.
4. Assists the Principal in ensuring that the school's policies and procedures meet state,
federal, and county/ school board requirements.
5. Supervises and evaluates the daily activities of any assigned personnel.
6. Assists the Principal in establishing and sustaining positive relationships with the
community and other service organizations to foster understanding and solicit support
for students and their families.
7. Monitors halls, school grounds, and pupil movement to ensure a safe and orderly
environment at the assigned school.
8. Attends and supervises school sponsored events and activities as assigned.
9. Articulates and supports school safety initiatives to the faculty and school community.
10. Seeks ways to develop and sustain a climate of mutual respect between and among the
students, staff and adults who participate at the school.
11. Assist and as directed, prepares related reports and records as required by the
school district, local, state, or federal government.
12. Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
13. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other
appropriate administrators.
14. Be alert and always report suspicious activity to school authorities and or other
applicable entities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills
2. Ability to quickly write, clear, concise, grammatically, and factually correct content.
3. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
4. Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations, priorities, and workloads.
5. Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.
6. Ability to exercise discretion with confidential and sensitive matters.
7. Ability to respond effectively with calm, tact, and sound judgment in stressful situations.
8. Knowledge and understanding of public education goals, objectives, and policies.
9. Knowledge of the school district and local community.
10. Knowledge of use of Google Suites and computer applications.


Minimum Qualifications:
High school degree or equivalent required, some college preferred. At least two years
administrative experience with a variety of office responsibilities and data entry. Greene County School District, NC
