Job Description

Job Summary:

The Industrial Cleanroom Scientist is responsible for preparing and characterizing samples using specialized techniques and tools within a cleanroom environment. This role requires working under strict guidelines to ensure accurate and scientifically sound results for a variety of projects in pharmaceuticals, food, and other materials. The scientist will manage their workstation, perform sample preparation, and follow all required documentation protocols in compliance with ISO 17025, FDA/cGMP, and ISO 14644 standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample Preparation and Characterization:
  • Follow established procedures to prepare and characterize samples using specialized techniques and tools in a cleanroom environment.
  • Handle complex, ongoing, and time-sensitive projects, including rush requests from clients.
  • Prepare samples, particularly particulate materials, by isolating and mounting them on substrates (typically 10-50 µm particles).
  • Maintain good dexterity and steady hands to handle small tools, including forceps, with precision.
  • Ensure samples are prepared according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Project Leader instructions.
  • Cleanroom Environment Maintenance:
  • Complete work in an ISO Class 5 cleanroom environment to ensure a particle-free workspace.
  • Follow strict gowning procedures (suit, bonnet, gloves) to maintain a controlled cleanroom environment.
  • Regularly clean samples, preparation materials, and the room to maintain low particulate levels.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
  • Follow client-specific procedures and documentation requirements while ensuring safety and security protocols are in place.
  • Ensure all work complies with ISO 17025, FDA/cGMP, and ISO 14644 standards, maintaining reliable and defensible scientific results.
  • Document all work on paper as required, maintaining high-quality records.
  • Laboratory and Equipment Maintenance:
  • Manage industrial sample preparation supplies for your workstation and filtration rooms.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining and calibrating two assigned microscopes and digital cameras.
  • Work with procurement specialists to order laboratory and cleanroom supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Monitor and initiate the reordering of basic laboratory chemicals and supplies.
  • Perform general laboratory housekeeping and maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Work with flexibility and adaptability in a changing priority environment to meet client needs and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the team, supporting one another to ensure the completion of client projects.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience:
  • 2-5 years lab experience

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an ISO Class 5 cleanroom environment requiring adherence to strict cleanliness protocols.
  • This position requires frequent use of microscopes and other precision equipment.
