POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The job of Digital Content Manager is done for the purpose of leading the district's digital marketing strategy through dynamic video production, social media engagement, and website content development that enhances communications, public relations, employee engagement, and community connection. This position oversees the creation and deployment of high-quality, branded digital content aligned with district and school priorities. This job has regular business hours and is on-call to support schools with immediate needs. Responsibilities are divided among:
Video production and podcast development - from concept to completion including pre-production planning, filming, writing, editing, scheduling and streaming audio/video content that is broadcast-ready, working with OTT and traditional broadcast entities as well as vendors to deploy advertising
Social media strategy and execution - providing content, oversight and training to school and district stakeholders,
Photography - attend district and school events, take pictures for district marketing (print and social)
Website design, content development, and management - ensuring alignment with SUSD branding and accessibility standards.
This role supports the district's overall communication and marketing strategy, works in tandem with the Communications Manager/Public Information Officer (PIO), and is cross-trained in district and school communication platforms. The Digital Content Manager plays a key role in ensuring content creation is consistent, strategic, and compliant with student privacy standards, while also training principals, directors, and staff in effective digital communication, tracking metrics and often reporting to leadership.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
Video Production & Podcasting: Lead the production of original video content from concept through post-production to final delivery across web, social and streaming platforms, in alignment with district branding and strategic messaging.
Plan, schedule, produce and deploy weekly podcasts that support district initiatives, programs and leadership voices.
Operate and maintain professional video, audio and lighting equipment and editing software.
Capture and edit video content for events, campaigns, student features, and school highlights.
Support IT with Governing Board meetings, ensuring production includes titling, closed captioning, visuals, and is uploaded for public access.
Manage the district's library of video/audio content and organize for strategic reuse.
Social Media Strategy & Platform Management: Oversee and support school and district social media channels to ensure brand consistency, engagement, and alignment with marketing goals.
Develop and implement strategic content calendars and targeted campaigns.
Monitor and analyze social performance metrics and adjust strategies accordingly.
Provide training to principals, school staff and department leaders on social media best practices, emphasizing student privacy and public engagement.
Serve as a content advisor and troubleshooter for school-based social media accounts and campaigns.
Photography: Capture high-quality, storytelling photos that reflect the district's mission, values, and student/staff experiences.
Photograph key district events, classroom activities, athletics, fine arts, community partnerships, and board meetings.
Edit and optimize photos for use across platforms (social media, web, print, email).
Work closely with principals and school staff to schedule and coordinate photo opportunities.
Manage photo consent and usage rights in compliance with district policies.
Organize and archive images for easy retrieval and future campaigns.
Website Design, Content Development & Analytics: Design, develop, and manage school and district website content to maintain a user-friendly, visually appealing, and informative web presence.
Serve as primary contact for website structure, content audits, analytics, and maintenance.
Installation and implementation of software tools such as Google Analytics or CMS-integrated dashboards to monitor and report on user behavior, site traffic, and content performance.
Use data-driven insights to recommend improvements to site design, navigation, and content strategy.
Troubleshoot website issues in collaboration with IT and vendor partners.
Ensure all web content adheres to district branding, accessibility, and style guidelines.
Create and deliver training to staff on website best practices, content updates, and compliance standards.
Cross-Functional & Support Responsibilities: Serve as backup to the Public Information Officer for key communication duties as needed.
Manage and support the deployment of content on all district communication platforms, including web and social media management tools, and CMS platforms.
Integration of digital platforms, data protection, and functionality of communication tools into district technology structure.
Coordinate with the Communications and Marketing team to ensure consistency in messaging and visual identity.
Support and lead professional development opportunities focused on effective, ethical digital communication and student privacy compliance.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
College degree and/or 5+ years of professional, paid experience in web maintenance and/or commercial content management systems
5+ years of professional, paid experience with Adobe Creative Suite products including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Audition
5+ years of professional, paid experience with videography, photography and social media
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (position requirements at entry): Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Audition)
Skilled in photography AND video, audio editing, motion graphics, and multimedia production
Experience using cinema-grade cameras
Proficiency in website content management systems (e.g., Finalsite, WordPress, or equivalent)
Ability to use analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Meta Insights) to track and report on performance
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, basic SEO practices, and accessibility standards
Strong in social media strategy and content creation across major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
Ability to train and support staff on digital best practices and privacy compliance
Strong organizational, collaborative, and project management skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
