Job Summary The Director of Application Development is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all enterprise software solutions. This includes the product management and software development of applications. This person is responsible for providing leadership, direction and guidance for the implementation, maintenance, enhancement, and improvement of applications through effective organization, communication, and execution. Additional responsibilities include establishing and administering operating and technology standards, development of new IT services and problem identification, and resolution processes as it pertains to the delivery of applications.
Major Duties And Responsibilities - Analyzes complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommends technical solutions.
- Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining and enforcing standards, procedures and services that apply to developing the technical solutions.
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
- Coordinate project initiation, prioritization, and information systems resource allocation directed at successful delivery of commercial business initiatives.
- Provide strategy, design, and direction for divisional initiatives including existing system enhancements, new system development, and support of production systems.
- Partner with the Divisions to define business needs around software.
- Approves all business requirement before technical design and development.
- Partner with the Project Management Office to record and track all projects requests in an accurate and clear manner for reporting to management and the Executive Committee.
- Manage and maintain SDLC processes and ensure the procedure is consistently being used for all projects.
- Provide time and resource estimates for all project requests, coordinating with other Information Systems team members as required.
- Provide direction and coordination to assure all testing efforts are performed for applicable projects, which may include unit testing, load testing, end-to-end testing, and validation.
- Provide periodic status reports as requested.
- Participate in planning and prioritization sessions as required.
- Attend weekly Information Systems staff meetings.
- Demonstrate expertise by providing sound, creative project management approaches and a thorough knowledge of technical business systems.
- Manage one or more teams consisting of development managers, architects, and developers to deliver on all projects.
- Put together goals and responsibilities for all team members.
- Perform performance reviews for all direct reports.
- Mentor team members to help grow their careers.
- Build out a high performing culture for the team.
- Complete other duties and functions as requested by CIO.
Required Qualification (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner.
- Minimum eight plus years of successful experience leading business consulting and technical project initiatives resulting in superior technical and business deliverables.
- Solid knowledge of software development, product management, and project management approaches and methodologies are required.
- Candidate must possess capability to deliver large, medium, and small projects on time and within budget.
Education - Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Business-related field or equivalent work experience.
