Job Description

As Director of Development, you’ll be the driving force behind all fundraising and philanthropic engagement for a growing non-profit organization in Madison, WI. You’ll work closely with the Executive Director, staff, and Board of Directors to build lasting relationships with donors, lead fundraising campaigns and events, and help shape the organization’s future sustainability and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan, including individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, planned giving, and special events.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with donors, foundations, businesses, and community stakeholders.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador at public events, speaking engagements, and community presentations.
  • Oversee donor communications, stewardship strategies, and CRM database management.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to set revenue goals and measure fundraising performance.
  • Supervise development staff and lead internal efforts to build a strong and sustainable culture of philanthropy.
  • Partner with the Communications Team to align messaging and outreach strategies.
  • Support the organization’s budgeting, grant strategy, and reporting functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in fundraising or development, including experience managing donor portfolios and securing major gifts.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills; comfortable representing the organization in public forums.
  • Experience supervising staff, setting team goals, and providing feedback.
  • Proficiency with fundraising databases/CRMs and data-informed strategy development.
  • Multilingual skills are a plus.
