Job Summary
The Department of Medicine (DOM) Director of Research Administration and Revenue Management reports to both the DOM Associate Chair for Administration and the Associate Chair for Finance, and works very closely with the Associate Chairs for Research as part of the central administration senior leadership team, and is responsible for directing financial management, internal controls, compliance and risk management related to sponsored funding for the department at all sites, including the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). As part of the central administration team, the Director of Research Administration establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers; and is responsible for achieving broadly stated goals through subordinate team members for at least 50% of the time. The incumbent works closely with the chair, division chiefs, faculty, division managers, and central administration managers. The incumbent supervises an analytical staff of seven and has dotted-line responsibility for over 50 research administration and finance staff employees across the department as well as advisory responsibility to the centralized Research Management Services (RMS).MED-CORE-ADMIN-RESEARCH

The Director works closely with the Associate Chairs for Biomedical and Clinical Research to develop and implement the department's strategic initiatives and vision concerning research. As an expert in the functional area of research administration, the Director represents the department or school on campus committees and participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives as well as actively influences campus initiatives, advocating on behalf of the department regarding the design and implementation of policies and procedures affecting sponsored awards. This role is especially important in ensuring that communication is bridged between the department and central campus offices. In addition, the Director coordinates with the Faculty Practice Revenue Management Practice Office to ensure clear, actionable reporting on clinical revenue, and to develop methods of analysis to evaluate clinical revenue drivers. The Director is also responsible for studying the intersection of standard of care and research billing to clarify compliance risk and identify revenue opportunities. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $118,300 - $268,900 (Annual Rate).
