Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Houston, TX Hybrid working

Compensation: Up to $170,000 + equity package

Are you a skilled Embedded Software Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity in Space? Our client is seeking a highly skilled Embedded Software Engineer to join their team, a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ideas from theory to deployment.

In this position, you will play a crucial role in advancing our client's automated scheduling solution by integrating cutting-edge machine learning algorithms into satellites. If you get excited at the prospect of developing embedded network routing software for a dynamic mesh network, then this could be the role for you!

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop route optimization strategies using Python, C++ and Rust (previous Rust experience not essential).
• Implement embedded network routing software for a space-based mesh network.
• Create network simulations for satellite constellations and model communication interactions with ground-based assets.
• Conduct network design and trade-off studies and define protocols for OSI Layers 2 and 3.
• Provide network expertise to support data science and machine learning development.

Qualifications

• Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
• At least 2 years of professional experience as an Embedded Software or Network Engineer (or a similar role).
• Experience working with Python and C++ and/or Rust.
• Experience with ARM processors and developing embedded software.
• Knowledge of network protocols and routing algorithms such as MPLS, NETCONF/YANG, and Dijkstra's.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) systems integration and testing.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware, software, networking, and communication protocols.
• Familiarity with discrete-event network simulators like OMNET++.
• Understanding of IPSec, traffic shaping, QoS algorithms, cellular/satellite network protocols, and software-defined networks.
• Bonus: Experience with network flow optimization, satellite communications, and optical inter-satellite links (OISL).
