POSITION SUMMARY

The Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce (the “Chamber”) is the lead business, marketing and

economic growth organization in West Central Georgia. The Chamber’s mission is to lead the Columbus region

as a catalyst for growth, economic opportunity, business strength, and community engagement.

The Event Coordinator, reporting to the Vice President of Partnership and Engagement, plays a critical role in

supporting Chamber events by planning and executing the look and feel of each engagement. This role also

executes administrative tasks related to sponsor fulfillment and supports the Partnership Manager. The Event

Coordinator will also collaborate cross-departmentally to provide support to achieve successful organizational

outcomes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, develop, and execute events to support organization.
  • Develop a strong network of vendors and partners to support the delivery of successful events.
  • Coordinate all aspects of events including facility rental, speakers, sponsor contact and fulfillment,
  • budget and event promotion.
  • Provide weekly reports to inform leadership of event and engagement progress.
  • Establish and maintain records and closeout reports of all events to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide coordination for organization events and support for programs
  • Complete administrative tasks related to event tracking and fulfillment
  • Develop, track, and communicate event impact measures that will serve as benchmarks for future
  • activities and annual goal setting.
  • Support the Chamber’s programs at the direction of the Vice President of Partnership and
  • Engagement.
  • Coordinate Chamber ambassador support and engagement as necessary to support the execution of
  • events.
  • Pursue cost efficiencies and revenue growth in the execution of events across the organization.
  • Support the development event marketing materials.
  • Support the planning and budgeting and participate in the management of related financials.
  • Promote the mission and core values of the Chamber and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned at the direction of the Vice President of Partnership and Engagement.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & REQUIRED SKILLS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related field preferred.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in event coordination or project management, with education, training, or other credentials potentially compensating for a lack of direct experience.
  • Experience in marketing, promotion, and leveraging web presence and social media platforms is an asset.
  • Prior experience managing volunteers and coordinating with vendors is preferred.

Required Skills

  • Self-starter with proven ability to work without direct supervision to meet deadlines in a decisive manner in sometimes high-pressure situations.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and multi-task.
  • Candidate must have the ability to travel as needed (10 – 15%).
  • Proven ability to make decisions with limited information.
  • Comfort with periodic ambiguity.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, especially in the areas of communicating with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Computer and basic software skills (ex. Microsoft Office).
  • Strong, persuasive communicator with excellent verbal presentation skills.
