Join to apply for the Gallery Assistant/Attendant role at Americas Society/Council of the Americas New York We are seeking a part‑time paid Gallery Assistant/Attendant to support the Art department and to be the main point of contact for visitors to the gallery. The Art at Americas Society program boasts the longest‑standing space in the United States dedicated to exhibiting and promoting art from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. Since the mid‑1960s, Americas Society has been producing both historical and contemporary exhibitions, publications, as well as public and educational programs, featuring outstanding artists, curators, critics, and scholars. Promoting a plural view of culture from the continent, Americas Society has achieved a unique and renowned leadership position in the field. Responsibilities Opening and closing of the gallery Greeting and interacting with visitors Ensure the safety of exhibitions on display Monitor and keep accurate record of visitor attendance Managing gallery contacts, including supporting transfer of contacts to Fonteva Taking inventory of department library (on‑site and in storage) Managing Artwork Inventory spreadsheet Assisting in inventory, sales, and distribution of Americas Society publications Organizing gallery technology and equipment Taking inventory and helping arranging installation of permanent collection art in AS offices Provide support for exhibition installation and deinstallation Assist taking artwork condition photographs Help Assistant Curator scan, file and organize exhibition paperwork Procure exhibition supplies as directed by curatorial team Liaise with outside vendors as directed by Assistant Curator Provide support at evening programs Monitoring galleries during extended public hours Assisting with event check‑in and book sales Assist with department accounting including processing invoices and filing credit card receipts as directed by Assistant Curator Other duties as assigned Qualifications Strong interest in art and/or Latin American culture Previous experience in customer service preferably working in a museum/art gallery environment Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Excellent time management Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred Work Schedule Fixed hours: Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm, maximum of 25 hours per week. Occasional evening hours or Monday/Tuesday hours as needed for public programs and/or curatorial projects. Pay $20/hour COVID‑19 Vaccination As a further condition of employment, all staff are required to be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID‑19.
