Duties include: work comp care, initial triage, injury and follow-up care; breath alcohol screening, drug screening, hearing screening, spirometry testing; respiratory fit testing, vaccinations, employer educational programs, and variousl other occupational health clinic services. Required certifications are provided by Finley Occupational Health. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Occupational Health RN is responsible for providing direct care to employees and other personnel who become ill and/or are injured on company property. Performs nursing assessments and assists occupational health providers with employment and surveillance examinations. Educates employees on health/wellness/safety-related topics through individual discussions or group training. Responsibilities Clinical Excellence/Patient Care - Examines and assesses acutely ill employees and determines urgency of care.
- Refers cases to company provider, or personal provider when appropriate.
- Administers necessary testing to employees (e.g. audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, etc.).
- Implements company health and safety programs on topics such as blood pressure, burns, wellness, CPR, and may include weekly indemnity and international travel.
- Maintains accurate and confidential employee medical records on computer and hard copy as needed. Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
- Accurately and promptly implements provider’s orders.
- Observes and supports all UnityPoint Health and company-specific policies and protocols.
- Assists in case management initiation and follow-up.
- Functions independently in a single-nurse-staffed clinic.
- Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in assigned unit/dept./area in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
- Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgements; maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
- Assists in all areas and aspects of the Occupational Health clinic as requested by Director of Occupational Health and Employee Health.
Qualifications Education: - Graduate of accredited nursing program (must obtain BSN within 5 years of hire date)
Experience: - Must have 3 years of nursing experience
License(s)/Certification(s): - Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within (3) months from date of hire
- Obtain and maintain National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved spirometry
- Obtain and maintain Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) certification
- Obtain and maintain certification in Department of Transportation Drug & Alcohol Testing/Screening
