Job Description

Summary & Objective

The Painter will be responsible for preparing surfaces, mixing paints, and applying finishes to various interior and exterior surfaces in a variety of settings. The ideal candidate has experience with painting techniques, understands safety standards, and takes pride in delivering high-quality results.

Essential Functions
  • Check staffing levels daily and corrects any deficiencies
  • Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, filling holes, and washing walls or other surfaces.
  • Apply paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Mix and match paint colors to ensure a consistent and accurate finish.
  • Protect surrounding areas with drop cloths or masking tape to prevent damage or mess.
  • Operate tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, sprayers, and scaffolding safely and efficiently.
  • Follow safety guidelines and proper ventilation procedures while working with hazardous materials.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure high-quality standards and touch up as necessary.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area.
  • Perform minor drywall or surface repairs when needed before painting.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other tradespeople as required.

Other Duties
  • Works in any position within the Environmental Services Department as needed
  • Conducts in-services/education as needed or requested
  • Provide orientation on a regular basis to new employees.
  • Create work assignments for special projects
  • Participates in staff in-service training
  • Promotes positive employee engagement, teamwork, mutual respect and safety work practices.
  • Maintain required mandatory skill updates.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • May serve as an interim department leader depending on need.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently work in outside weather condition and is frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts

Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a painter or similar role.
  • Familiarity with painting materials, tools, and techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of color theory and surface preparation.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy equipment and stand for long periods.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in painting or a related trade.
  • Experience with both residential and commercial painting projects.
  • Basic knowledge of drywall patching and light carpentry.
