Responsibilities include calibrating tank maintenance, daily feeding, problem solving, and liaising with research teams. The role will also provide leadership, training, and genetic line maintenance. The candidate must be willing to work Saturdays or Sundays as needed. Responsibilities Animal Care (40%) Handles and cares for zebrafish lines daily following operating procedures. Observes and maintains an awareness of animal physical needs and reports changes. Communicates status to principal investigators and laboratory staff. Collaborates with technologist/veterinarian on treatment plans and evaluates effectiveness. Humanely euthanizes animals per regulations. Assists breeding and maintenance of shared zebrafish stock. Monitors growth and survival of larvae and juvenile fish. Leadership and Mentoring (30%) Trains new employees and lab members on fish handling. Tracks training compliance and reports deficiencies. Instructs users on correct practices and provides feedback. Delegates service tasks weekly. Coordinates hiring of undergraduates with PIs. Schedules feeders for weekends and holidays. Interfaces with building management and outside vendors for maintenance. Oversees repairs and ensures timely completion. Facility/Habitat Maintenance (15%) Oversees facilities and troubleshoots issues. Cleans tanks, nets, and mating tanks using approved methods. Maintains knowledge of recirculating systems and monitors water quality daily. Updates daily logs of parameters and equipment maintenance. Performs light maintenance such as filter replacement and decontamination. Research Support (10%) Orders supplies and monitors equipment performance. Maintains computerized facility records. Provides general technical assistance to research teams. Records tasks in laboratory notebooks and data sheets. Adheres to lab safety and hazardous waste protocols. Ensures IACUC protocol adherence and reports to IACUC. Administrative (5%) Manages zebrafish inventory database and tank accuracy. Orders consumables and non-consumables. Receives and stores food and supplies. Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality in interactions. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications – Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 2–3 years of relevant experience or equivalent. Independent judgment and reliable work ethic. Strong written and verbal communication. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb step ladders. Comfortable working in tropical aquatic environments (~83°F). Available to work weekends and holidays if needed. Familiarity with laboratory animal care procedures. Ability to instruct and mentor facility users. Willingness to work in hazardous chemical environments. Preferred Qualifications Troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Knowledge of computer and software applications.
