Electrical Engineer – Engineering Services

Locations: Baton Rouge, LA

Your Role

As an Electrical Engineer within our Engineering Services team, you’ll play a key part in optimizing, designing, and troubleshooting a broad range of electrical equipment at one of our integrated petrochemical manufacturing sites. You'll spend time both in the field and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure our operations are safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to identify and execute electrical reliability improvements and repairs.
  • Design and specify industrial electrical equipment (480V to 230kV), including motors, relays, transformers, breakers, substations, and generators.
  • Lead and support electrical scopes for new and retrofit projects—from concept through commissioning.
  • Provide startup and troubleshooting support in partnership with maintenance teams.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in electrical technology and liaise between project, operations, and maintenance teams.
  • Conduct power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, motor starting, etc.).
  • Drive consistency in engineering quality by guiding contractor work and enforcing compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Develop design basis documents, equipment specifications, and engineering deliverables.
  • Participate in the Electrical Community of Practice, safety reviews, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Maintain up-to-date electrical area classifications and support global practices and codes (API, NFPA, NEC, NETA).

About You

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in power systems within the petrochemical or heavy industrial sectors
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience (preferred)

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work across teams and with vendors/contractors
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and classification codes
  • Experience with SKM software and power system modeling
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally as needed
  • Familiarity with safe work practices and environmental awareness in industrial settings
