Key Responsibilities

  • Develop compelling, human-centered stories that showcase NCUS’s impact across workforce development, health equity, education, financial empowerment, and socioeconomics.

  • Craft stories that highlight health disparities, community wellness efforts, prevention initiatives, and the impact of NCUS’s health programming.
  • Capture the impact of NCUS’s workforce and education pathways, including certifications, partnerships, credentialing, and career placements.
  • Write engaging content that supports financial literacy and wealth-building.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Public Relations to pitch stories to gain media coverage.
  • Monitor emerging issues, including public policy developments, economic shifts, health news, and socioeconomic topics, to write timely and relevant stories.
  • Proactively identify awareness months, national observances, and trend opportunities to propose high-impact stories that elevate NCUS’s visibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, english, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in nonprofit, corporate, or mission-driven communications.
  • Experience writing in AP style.
  • Media relations expertise, including pitching stories, cultivating journalist relationships, and securing earned media coverage.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong narrative voice.

Preferred Skills

  • Proven ability to translate complex ideas into accessible.
  • Experience in a newsroom.
  • Relationships with journalist, reporters, and industry analyst.
