Job Title: PLC Programmer

Reports To: Maintenance Superintendent

FLSA: Exempt

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled PLC Programmer with experience in industrial automation to join our team at Vicksburg Forest Products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and associated control systems used in sawmill operations. This role plays a critical part in optimizing equipment performance, ensuring safety standards, and maximizing productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Program and tune multiple axis of motion control
  • Program and debug PLC’s and HMI’s
  • Design control systems used in high performing Equipment
  • Assist in the planning of new equipment installations
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Administer modifications of existing PLC programs in coordination with mill personnel
  • Troubleshoot production equipment (motors, PLC’s, VFD’s, etc.)
  • Provide phone support as needed

Qualifications:

  • Related degree or equivalent industry experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of motion controllers, PLC’s, servo systems and HMI’s
  • Experience with Allen Bradly Control Logix preferred
  • Ability to manage time and priorities without direct supervision
  • Excellent communication and listening skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with SCADA systems, industrial robotics, or vision systems.
  • Knowledge of sawmill equipment and processes such as debarkers, primary breakdowns, edgers, and trimmers.
  • Familiarity with safety systems including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safety PLCs.

Work Environment:

  • Industrial mill environment – exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.
  • Availability to support off-shift or weekend maintenance activities when necessary.
