The Division of Student Affairs (SA) has an outstanding opportunity for a Social Work Case Manager (SWCM). This individual will be part of the Office of Student Advocacy and Support, performing a variety of complex assignments including supporting student's meet their basic needs through community resources and on-campus programs to support housing and food insecurity barriers to success. The UW Tacoma basic needs support program provides holistic support for students who are experiencing homelessness or hunger, ensuring academic success and preparation for lifelong achievement after graduation from postsecondary education.

Under the supervision of the Director for Student Advocacy and Support, the Case Manager will work one on one with students using the social work centric case management model. The position's primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and assess a case management model in support of students in need of assistance in areas such as (but not limited to) food/housing insecurity, transportation, referral for medical and mental health/addiction services, childcare, and other basic needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Management and Consultation (70%)

  • Works one on one with students using a social work centric case management model.

  • Primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and assessing a case management model in support of students in need of assistance in areas such as (but not limited to) food insecurity, housing, transportation, referral for medical and mental health/addiction services, childcare, and other basic needs, and provide leadership in developing and implementing campus emergency aid program.

  • Provide student consultation, coordinate student referrals and develop systems for reporting and maintaining student cases, and support students referred through the campus CARE team.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with other on-campus offices and academic units to identify students in need of services.

  • Provides support, consultation and coaching to the Social Work Interns.

    Outreach and Education (15%)

  • Develop and implement outreach and education to increase students' awareness of campus resources and normalize help-seeking behaviors.

  • Develop program evaluation methods for assessment of services provided by the office, and by outside providers.

    Data Collection and Research (15%)

  • Manages the data collection tools for OSAS.

  • Writes weekly and annual reports demonstrating the outputs of the office.

    On-Call Rotation

  • Participate in on-call duty rotation, providing regular back-up support for residential life staff.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education-accredited program and two years post-MSW degree experience in a human/social services position.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a college or university.

  • Experience engaging and serving diverse communities and individuals from a diversity of backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of local and regional human services resources.

    The Social Work Case Manager is expected to work a schedule that satisfies the needs of the program and staff, and when necessary, there may be circumstances that require a more flexible schedule to attend evening and weekend meetings and events.
